TEDx Findhorn with Ingeborg Bosch
On Feb. 2, 2018, Ingeborg Bosch gave her first TEDx Talk in Findhorn, Scotland, entitled “Who am I? PRI: the laser path for reconnecting to self and others”. Ingeborg explained how she developed PRI in response to the burnout she herself had fallen into in 1994. It was totally unexpected for her, because she had a good job, a good relationship and a nice one-year-old son. What on earth was going on with her? Burnout was not well known at that time, and so Ingeborg herself started looking for how to free herself from these horrible feelings.
Three key discoveries
She made three important discoveries. The first was that she was not alone. Every year, about one in three Europeans suffer from burnout. How is it possible with all the amenities and all the prosperity we have!
The answer to this question came from the second discovery: most emotional and mental suffering, and even physical illness, are linked to negative childhood experiences. In everyone. Even when childhood has been “normal,” there have been experiences that, as small and vulnerable as we were, we could not cope with. This happens to everyone, no matter how much parents love their children. And these experiences are stored in our bodies and in our brains. A science that, despite all the evidence out there, is far too little used in counseling.
So if we’re all walking around with traumas is the solution then that we’re all going to pull them up? No. The third discovery Ingeborg made was that our early childhood defines our view of the world. We put on glasses, so to speak, and for the rest of our lives we continue to look through these glasses and react to what we think we see. Even when that is no longer the case at all. A child who grows up in a hostile environment will, as an adult, still look through these glasses and experience a hostile world. And will also react to the world as such, thus confirming his image. Unconsciously, his symptoms continue to exist in this way.
Recovery is possible with PRI
What helps us recover? Two points are very important in this. First, by starting to discover that we perceive everything in the present through those glasses colored by our past. A big step, because we then let go of the belief that what we perceive in the now is right. Then we can learn to take off these glasses and stop reacting automatically and structurally as if we are still living in the past. To then be able to be truly open to the present! It is a path that takes courage, but it is possible to take off those glasses when you have been able to feel what it was like to really live in that world as a child. And that makes a huge difference in your life now. For yourself, your children and the world around you.
Experiencing PRI yourself
Ingeborg concludes her talk with a real-life experience of PRI, where you, the viewer, discover your own glasses and can experience how they color your world.
